The price cap fell by 7% on 1 July after a 6.4% rise in April for those on standard price-capped tariffs. For a typical household paying by Direct Debit that's equivalent to about £1,720 a year.

With the price cap predicted to rise again in October, if you're not on a fixed deal, you'll almost certainly be on a price-capped tariff so it might be worth considering switching to a fixed deal.
