Nottingham City Council has been ranked 29th in the latest list of the UK's top 100 council house builders, recognising the city's contribution to building new homes.

The ranking, published in Inside Housing magazine’s 2026 Biggest Council House Builders list, is based on councils' housebuilding activity during the 2025/26 financial year. The annual survey, based on Freedom of Information responses from councils across Britain, recorded 11,586 new homes completed by responding councils during 2025/26.

In Nottingham, the Council works with a range of contractor partners to build new homes citywide, providing a mix of properties to meet local housing needs including family homes, bungalows and apartments.

Since 2014, the Council (and its former ALMO Nottingham City Homes) has delivered more than 1,000 new affordable homes for rent across over 40 sites in the city, helping to increase the supply of housing available to local people. It has also to date spent over £56million on sites currently in development, including Oakdene in St Ann’s, Colston Road in Bulwell, and the site of the former Laura Chambers Lodge in Clifton.

Cllr Jay Hayes, Executive Member for Housing and Planning, said: "Being ranked among the UK's top 30 council house builders is an important recognition of the work taking place here in Nottingham to deliver new homes.

"Building more homes is an important part of meeting the city's housing needs. We're working with partners to deliver a range of properties for local people, and we’re also investing significantly in the council homes we already have.

"We know there's more to do, and we'll continue to look at opportunities to increase the supply of good-quality, affordable housing across Nottingham."
